50th year of racing

Since 1968, The Surf Safari has been a highlight of the Surf Sports calendar in Tasmania. An event of impressive endurance, it sees the Derwent River come alive with the best of Tasmania’s lifesavers displaying their skills across a 21km course. In recent years the Surf Safari program has been extended to include ocean skis, stand up paddle boards, outriggers, junior boards and some shorter distance events.

On November 3rd 2018, the Surf Safari will celebrate 50 years of continuous surf craft racing in Tasmania - making it the longest running surf craft event in Australia. The event is set to attract elite competitors from across the country.

There are categories for juniors through to elite athletes. A special call out is being made to older or past competitors keen to ‘brush off the cobwebs’ and jump on the water for this historic event. Bring your family and friends - spread the word that the Peppermint Bay Ferry will allow spectators to follow all the action on the water.

Presentations and after party to celebrate the milestone at the Hobart Brewing Co.

Food vans, drinks, entertainment and good company. All welcome.
